Hard chrome – our specialty for gauges
In the USA, gauge materials were extensively tested for their wear resistance at the Bureau of Standards in Washington. The results of these tests clearly show that hard chrome-plated gauges have a service life eight to ten times longer than non-plated gauges.
Engineers at Ford Motor Co. conducted extensive tests and obtained such remarkable results that today more than 100,000 chrome-plated gauges are in continuous use in a single plant. The extended service life results in a significant reduction in the demand for gauge material. Likewise, considerable savings in inspection time and costs are achieved, as reinspection of the gauges for exceeding wear limits can be carried out at longer intervals.
The advantages have also been recognized early in Switzerland, as we have been manufacturing gauges in hard chrome-plated versions for many years.
